Learning to be Content
I pray that your week is going well so far!! It's Wednesday, and it is time for a new blog!!! I wrote a quote on Facebook yesterday that said you have to continue to eat the Word to keep the fire burning from Sunday. It is important to be intentional about that when we are working to build our relationship with God. Sunday can be a life transforming word, but we cannot allow the revelation and understanding that has come to bring change be ripped out of our hearts because we did not continue to seek God after Sunday.
Yesterday, I listen to a podcast by Priscilla Shirer called "Surprisingly Satisfied!" I am going to be finishing the series by listening to one message per day because I was just so blessed by the message. I encourage you to go listen to it, but I wanted to share what I gained from the message myself.
She talked about the power of being content!
"11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
She shared how all her life she was looking forward to the next stage of life, which I am sure everyone can identify with. When you were younger, you were ready to be older. However, what really brought this word home for me is when she said when we are faced with challenges, we are always looking forward to the moment we are out of the challenges. I was astonished because I am in a season right now that all I can think about is how I am looking forward to being out of this hard place. I have been praying and believing God, but now, I have learned I have to be content. I have to embrace the here and the now of my present difficulties. The truth is no one likes to be uncomfortable even though we say I am willing to trust God and have faith in him when things get hard.
I listened to this message, and I cried and repented because I realized that when difficult things happened, I was always eagerly waiting and not really patiently waiting for the change to take place. I told God I will live in the moment, get the wisdom from the moment, and learn the lessons from the moment no matter if it comes from places of difficulty. The reason why I can do this is because she reminded me in her message that God is Sovereign. She said everything that we experience in this life God either created or allowed it!! When I tell you that freed me, I wanted to shout!!
Ladies, we have to learn to be content. The more we focus on God and less on us, the more we can see that even in the hard places that God is still there.
I know there are other ladies like me who are faced with challenges, and if you are honest, you just want them to be over. IT causes you to lose peace, strength, hope, joy, and faith. I know this because I have been there. However, when I think about the love and the Sovereignty of God, I know that everything is working together for my good even when things are hard! My testimony will be beautiful! Your testimony will be beautiful! However, if we are miserable through our tough season, how will you be able to help encourage someone through theirs?!!! We need first hand accounts that being content will allow you to go through the hard season with hope, strength, joy, and a peace that can only come from God.
