Hello Ladies!! As we continue this series of "Unity Unveiled," the topic I want to deal with today is "Broken Unity." We have talked about the Power in Unity, and we have talked about the need for love for unity to prevail. However, now I want to deal with Broken Unity.
This is an important topic because we need to expose how the enemy breaks unity, so as women, we can be intentional about working to build unity instead of breaking unity.
How is unity broken?
Unity can be broken in many different ways: betrayal, gossip, disappointment, selfishness, jealousy, and comparison. These things can take place before or after salvation, but they still cause a negative outlook on relationships with others. It is important for each individual to be honest about any previous hurt, pain, or disappointment from past experiences that makes them hesitant to walk in unity. Remember a previous blog dealt with the fact that there is Power in Unity. We overcome and help one another overcome. You can miss your breakthrough with isolation.
Job was a faithful child of God. God had blessed him tremendously. He had wealth, a big family, and many friends. However, the devil went to God and asked God if he could take some of the things that he had to show God that the only reason Job served Him was because of all God had blessed Job with. So, God permitted the devil to attack his family, his possessions, and his health. However, Job never turned his back on God. How does this relate to unity?
During Job's time of mourning the lost of his children, he had friends that came over and questions his faith and the things he had done. They thought that God was punishing him. Job 4:7-8, “Think now,” he says, “who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off? As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.” When Job needed friends to encourage him and lift him up, they were questioning his character. This is an example of broken unity. When Job was in need of support and prayer, he was betrayed.
Nevertheless, look what happened in the end:
"7 After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8 So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.” 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11 All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver[a] and a gold ring."
God had Job pray for his friends who had spoken badly of him. Job could have refused, but he didn't. He showed love, which is what true unity looks like. After, that the Bible says that "the Lord Restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before." When you walk in unity, you can expect God to honor you and bless you. Then, his brothers and sisters and everyone came to Job and treated him as they should have before. From his act of love, love was given to him. This reveals that even if someone is not walking in godly unity, you can be the example of how it should be done. Everyone learned a lesson on the importance of being there for someone else instead of judging them harshly.
I am not sure if any of you have been a place where unity has been broken in your life. However, you be encouraged because God has you. Allow God to mend your heart, and you do your part to show godly unity. We are to be the light in dark places. Be the example of what Unity should look like. Love someone to healing. Lift up your sisters and brothers in Christ. We need one another to keep moving forward into destiny. Open you heart again.
