Sword of the Spirit

Hello ladies, I am excited to continue this series “Armor Strong” in the month of June with some amazing women who will join the Facebook Live sessions on Sundays at 4pm!! Today, the topic is the last piece of armor: “The Sword of the Spirit.”

The sword of the Spirit is our only offensive weapon in the spiritual armor.

Ephesians 6: 17b, “and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Something interesting that God showed me about this verse is how Spirit is referencing the word of God. Therefore, the Spirit and the Word are interchangeable in this verse. That is powerful because the Holy Spirit enables us to walk in power and authority, and that authority is only realized and made possible through the Word of God. John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Jesus’ resurrection lets us know that the Word that we have is alive and active. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, he used the Word against everything that the enemy presented to him (Luke 4:1-13). This is what we must do, and we are able to see the active power of the Word through the Holy Spirit that was given to us once Jesus went to be in heaven with the Father. The Word of God empowered by the Holy Spirit, enables us to fight offensively against the enemy.

Sword for the Roman Soldiers:

The Gladius sword is one of the most widely recognized swords of any culture. These men were highly skilled and disciplined and the sword was one of the weapons for the cavalrymen and infantrymen. The skills and the advances in sword making techniques made the sword a deadly weapon and was one of the major factors behind a long and successful military reign. To identify a person’s sword the name was etched into the blade. (swordhistory.info)

This shows the power behind the sword. When we are fully armored (skilled and disciplined) in the things of God and we have the sword of the Spirit, we can expect “success.” Is your name etched into your sword? Can people identify how you fight your battles? Do you fight with physical weapons or are you allowing the Word of God to be your sword? The Word of God is powerful! Matthew 5:18, “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished,” and Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

These versus shows us how much God uphold His Word. When you are in battle, use the Word of God that is empowered by the Spirit, and you can expect victory!

Psalms 33:4, “For the word of Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.”

You can trust that when you apply the Word of God to your situation for things to happen, for things to shift, for miracles to take place, for the impossible becoming possible. This power is not just for the physical things. There are women who deal with internal battles also. Dealing with depression, anxiety, bitterness, unforgiveness, hurt, and confusion, use the Word of God as your resource for encouragement, strength, and hope. Furthermore, you tell the enemy what God says over the lies that he is whispering in your ear concerning that situation that is on your heart and mind. You let the enemy know that you will not give up and you will not back down.

Luke 10:19, “Behold I give unto you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Make sure you have on your armor:

  1. Waist belted with TRUTH

  2. Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS

  3. Feet Shod with PEACE

  4. Shield of FAITH

  5. Helmet of SALVATION

  6. Sword of the SPIRIT (WORD of God

This is what we need to be Real WONDER WOMEN in our Communities, families, jobs, and more.
