Helmet of Salvation
Hello ladies! I hope you all are doing well. I hope this theme of "Armor Strong" has been encouraging for you thus far. We are going to continue with this series. We are looking at the Spiritual Armor, and the piece of armor we will be focusing on right now is the "Helmet of Salvation."
Salvation- the act of saving or protecting from harm, risk, loss, destruction
-This is what Christ did for us on Calvary.
Helmet- The Romans developed several forms of helmets, including the round legionary’s helmet and the special gladiator’s helmet, with broad brim and pierced visor, giving exceptional protection to head, face, and neck. Their basic function was to protect the head, face, and sometimes the neck from projectiles and the cutting blows of swords, spears, arrows, and other weapons. How many life's challenges or battles have you lost because of your mindset?
Well, you don't have to loose! Use the protection God has given you! Take the helmet of Salvation.
The Helmet of Salvation is an important piece of armor for 2 reasons: 1. Salvation reveals that you have Victory 2. Salvation reveal that you are Free.
1. Salvation Reveals You Have Victory
John 16:33, "33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
I Corinthians 15:57, "57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
When you are dealing with challenges and obstacles, you have to believe God has already given you the victory. Often times we experience difficulty, and we cannot see ourselves coming out on the other side. We feel stuck, defeated, dismayed, and broken beyond repair. However, no matter how bad things become, you must understand that Christ died for our victory. Since that costly price has been pain, we have to have the unyielding Faith that we are going to come out victoriously. Don't give up! There is a Ted Winn song that says, "Don't give up on God cuz he wont give up on You! He's Able!" There is nothing too hard for God. Keep pressing forward. I went to the "Outpouring" Service of Shavon Sellers on Tuesday, and during worship and prayer she said, "Press beyond the pain and brokenness and get to Jesus." In him is where our victory lies. Use your Helmet of Salvation!
2. Salvation Reveals You are Free
Hebrews 10:10, "10 And by that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."
Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
As you receive God's extended hand to walk with him, it does not mean you will be perfect. You are always striving for it. Perfection is only to be mature in the things of God. This means no matter what stage you are in there is always an area that could use more maturing. However, sometimes we allow ourselves to become bound to different things, which become habits: lustful acts, lying, manipulation, anger, negative speaking, or gossip. Then, there are somethings that we have experienced that cause us to be bound. There are people who have been abused, molested, raped, degraded verbally, cheated on, talked about, and more, which has caused them to be bound. I don't know what you have experienced, but God wants you to be free! I don't know what habits are hard for you to shake, but God wants you free! Use your helmet of Salvation.
People speaking on the Power of the Mind:
Joyce Meyers has a book called The Battlefield of the Mind, and this book takes a deeper look into the challenges, makes decisions, deals with past hurts, and so much more that take place in the mind. It is important to understand that your victory whether or not you win the battle in your mind. For example, if a student approaches a state assessment fearful of the results, they will likely experience anxiety and do poorly on the test. On the other hand, if a student goes into the test believing confidently that what they have learned is enough for them to do well, they are more likely to pass and some excel and pass advance.
Carol Dweck created the notion of a Growth Mindset. A Growth Mindset is about the theory of a student learning with the concept of "yet." It is not that they cant learn something, but instead, they have not understood it "yet." This is completely predicated on the power of the mind. Her results have proven this to be true.
Steph Curry, NBA Basketball player for the Golden State Warriors (my favorite team), has a commercial, and he states that every game (battle) he has won has been fought and won first in his mind. Wow! A two time NBA Champion, the only unanimous MVP award recipient, and All-Star player is saying that he is able to do well on the court because of his mindset. Kobe Bryant even said that Curry was deadly because of his ability to continue on with a good attitude in the game even after missing a shot. Then, his coach said that when Curry has a off night, he is not worried because he is confident that Curry will be able to do well at another time. WOW! Your confidence and mindset can be recognized and respected so much so that others are confident in you.
Don't leave home without your helmet. You are going to experience battles in this life, and you have to make sure your mind is fixed on God. You must know that with him you have victory and you are free. It is not for us to walk around defeated, depressed, or discouraged. Instead, we must walk with our helmet of salvation, which will cause us to be strong in our minds. Then, when we should be broken, we are full of joy and hope. When we should be discourage, we are full of peace and confidence. When we should be bound, we are free and open. When we should quit, we are pressing forward and encouraged. When we should give up on God, we are praying and worshiping. Win the battle in your mind first!
