Belt of Truth
Hello, I pray that you all are doing well today. I am excited about this new topic for the month of May. As I research to have meaty content for you on this topic, I am being encouraged myself. Dr. Matthew Stevenson stated that when you approach the Word of God, you have to approach it in a way that you are coming as if you know nothing, so God can reveal something new and fresh to you. The first topic on this series is the first piece of armor that we are going to take a look at, which is the Belt of Truth.
Truth- a fact or belief that is accepted as true.
When we approach the Word of God, we must learn through the lens of our faith, so as you read, you accept it as true or truth. This is important because when you approach the Word, you want to apply those truths to your life for encouragement, hope, eternal knowledge, strength, love, and freedom.
The main function of the Belt with armor is to be a foundation for the sword, dagger, and metal apron. It was used as support for a solider to have their weapons for a fight.
Roman Soldiers (http://www.academia.edu/212354/The_Roman_Military_Belt):
- In the past, people knew who was a solider when they say them with their belt on, which held their sword.
- It was humiliating to have your belt removed for a few hours as punishment, and if your belt was taken, it was considered an honorable discharge.
It is important to have Truth as your Belt because it is supposed to be the sign by which people know who you are. If you move without truth, you are not prepared for the battle. The enemy comes with lies to knock you down, to destroy you, and to kill you spiritually, emotionally, or physically. Furthermore, Truth is Jesus because he is the Word (John 1:14, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.")
Your Fight Must be founded on Christ. Your foundation will cause you to be a target, but regardless of what comes and goes, don't leave Truth. You hold on to Truth, which is Christ, and he will continue to lift you up. When no one else is there, Christ is there to guide you, love you, and protect you. Did you know that your waist or abdomen was thought to be the seat of emotions? You have to be able to control your emotions with the Truth. If you desire emotional security, you keep your foundation in Christ, and you will experience the joy, peace, hope, and strength that you desire in the most darkest moments of your life. I heard someone say that you see the measure of man not during the good times but during the hard times. Your faith in God is tested during challenges, and in those moments, are when you need to hold on to God the most. It is time to challenge your emotions with your TRUTH, Christ!
"Fit For the Fight" by T-D Jakes:
- This is such a powerful message. He mention how the fight that we are in is the "Fight of Faith." 1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
- We fight so much in this life: doubt, fear procrastination, insecurities, to be consistent, to be focused, and to live worry free. Then, we fight to endure, to believe, to hold on, to survive, to be a wife, and to be a woman.
Everybody is fighting: rich and poor, young and old, single and married, children and no children, and with a job and without a job.
That's why it is important to take the Belt of Truth wherever you go! It is not good for you to fight alone. We fight the good fight of faith with Christ who is our truth. When it gets hard remember you are not alone. Keep Going. Now is not the time to let Christ or Truth go. It is time to keep your foundation in him! Don't let your emotions overtake you during challenging times. Be Armor Strong! Take Your Belt of Truth. It is given to you by God!
