Merry Christmas: A Poem & A Prayer
It wasn't the tree that appeared delightful and green
It wasn't the man in the bright red suit that is jolly when seen
It wasn't the present that blessed my heart to receive
Nor was it the splendid attitudes that this Christmas allows many to perceive
It was someone more incredible
A love so real and more tangible
It was a deed that could never be undone
A reason to remember that outlasts any temporary fun
Not from the chimney, nor the north pole he comes
Neither for the cookies or the milk on his gums
But to give something so precious and prized to be remembered
To bring back God's children who were once estranged and dismembered.
He is the greatest gift that changed the course of humankind
He is the greatest gift that was given that caused time to rewind
Back to the days when God and man had constant communion
Where genuine relationship caused an unbreakable union
Our Father gave us a gift that will be treasured forever
A gift through Christ which would cause freedom for whomever
It wasn't a bargain, a bribe, or a treat
It was an opportunity that seems way too sweet
Christ was given for the broken, the lost, the lame
Christ was given to bring meaning to life for all those who would call on his name
Christ was given for those who could not believe in themselves
Christ was given to allow hope, peace, and strength, on empty heart shelves
He did it not do it to be known as the Greatest Of All Time, the G.O.A.T.
But on a mission for his Father, to bring a restoration coat
So that relationship could once again be established
To humankind Christ came, and with his blood the chains of sin are demolished.
I pray that this year you stop to acknowledge the greatest gift ever given for you. I pray that you meditate and appreciate the sacrifice Christ gave. Enjoy your time with your family and friends, but please remember to say thank you to our Triune God who continues to give us blessing, strength, encouragement, and so much more. If you did not have the funds to buy all you wanted this year, remember there is still so much to be thankful for. I pray that you will take time to build your relationship with the Father. Finally, I pray that 2018 is one of the best years of your life!
In Jesus name, Amen.
