Peeling Back Layers of Doubt
Doubt is something that we have all experienced at some point or another. We can doubt our abilities, our motives, others, and unfortunately was can find ourselves doubting God. This is a hard reality that not many people desire to talk about. The problem is that doubt is often at odds with our faith. Faith says that it does not matter how bad things get, it can WILL get better. Doubts says it MAY get better. This can seem rather innocent at first glance, but MAY will place people in depression, hopelessness, anxiety, and isolation.
Where Faith says that all things are possible, Doubt says it all depends. Doubt often disguises itself as "reality." When we have God, what people denote as "reality" sometimes is in opposition with Faith in God's unlimited power. In moments of uncertainty, it is important to choose to put your Faith in God and not "reality." What has God told you? What does God's word say concerning you? Remember this week we are choosing to Level Up in our Faith, and doubt will stop that.
Doubt- to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.
Peeling Back the Layers of Doubt
Ask yourself some questions:
1. Why am I doubting?
2. When did I start to doubt and why?
3. What does God's Word say about this matter?
4. What action can I take that will exercise my Faith in this area?
Often times doubt comes after Faith was once strong. When things don't begin to happen or fall in line the way that one desires, one can begin to doubt that it will happen. However, God is often at work developing character or the "fruit of the Spirit" (Galatians 5:21-22). The enemy desires to steal your faith because he knows the strength and power of an individual filled with faith.
Hebrews 11 lays out the importance of Faith, and the wonders that happened in the lives of God people who had Faith. If Hebrews 11 was written today, could you be included? Or is there something that if God did it, you believe would be worthy of being noted? Can you have Faith till the end? Can you withstand the test? Can you trust God and not doubt?
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
God loves you, and he desires to do great things in your life. You have to continue to have Faith in God and not allow doubt to overtake you or the situation that you are in. God may not come as quickly as you have hoped, but that does not mean that he is not going to do what he said that he is going to do.
My freshmen year at college, I needed additional funding. There were moments where doubt tried to creep in, and I had to release my Faith through my words. I said "I believe." I declared, and I prayed. I did my school work, and I believed God to do the rest. Since, I have been in graduate school, God has provided for me just as he did during my years of undergraduate school. I could really say he has done more than I could have imagined (Ephesians 3:20). There are still things that I am believing God for, and when doubt tries to overtake me, I remember God's promises. I must keep my Faith near my heart and my lips. They say Faith has a voice, so speak Faith!
