Saved 4 Purpose
The bible says in Hebrews 13:8 that God is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. God desires us to use the power that he has placed in us, but it is upon our willingness to obey and be available. God saved us so that we might make it in, and those who are around us might be able to also. We are saved so that we can be a light and witness to our family, our co-workers, our friends, and associates.
We cannot be afraid of not knowing the Bible enough, afraid of not being worthy enough, afraid of making our own mistakes, or afraid of the reactions of others. Jesus said in John 14:12, “greater works shall ye do.” Then 1 John 4:4, the bible says, “Greater is he that is in you then he that is in the world.” Luke 10:19 says “I give unto you power to tread upon serpents, scorpions, and all power of the enemy.” The bible also says in Hebrews 1:5 “He would never leave us nor forsake us.” So as we go doing the work of the Lord, we can be confident that he is going with us.
The more we make ourselves available, the more God can use us. Then he can trust us with a greater level of anointing, power, wisdom, and revelation of his word just to name a few. God has given all of us a great task. We must try, we must sow seeds, and we must share Christ with the world. 1 Timothy 4:16 reads, “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue unto them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.
Athlete for the King: Stay in the Race
Dictionary.com defines an athlete as “a person trained or gifted in exercises or contest involving physical agility, stamina, or strength,” So the word athlete is a term that we associate first with the natural. As an athlete for God you have to do your best just as if you were playing sports for school.
My story, in 6th grade I ran track at Plaza Middle School. There were three key steps that I have to commit to. The first Step was joining the team. In essence, I decided to accept the challenge of competing against others. The second step was training, which is essential for track because one has to learn how to endure and preserver in order to win. The third step was sunning in the Meet. In track there are many events or races like the mile, the 800, the 400, the 200, and the 100. The races that I ran were the 800, the 400, and the 4 by 4.
When someone gives their life to Christ they are taking the first step because they have accepted the challenge to live for God. Someone me ask, how is that a challenge? Living for God is not a challenge because it is hard to do, but it is a challenge because you have to fight the urge to do things that your peers are doing that are against the will of God. For example, people around you engage in homosexual activities, partying, smoking, drinking, and fornication. However you can overcome these things because Philippians 4:13 read, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
The second step is receiving the Holy Ghost. This is what enables athletes for the King to remain holy in an unholy society. Yes, you will make mistakes and yes you will come against obstacles that will make you want to prepare for the race. The key is not to rely on yourself, but you must rely on god. In this second step you are developing a prayer life, a life of fasting, and studying the word of God.
The third and final step is the race. The skills that we acquire through training, endurance and perseverance, we now have to use it. Endurance is staying in the race no matter the length of time. Then perseverance is the ability to stay in the race no matter what hurdle or obstacle is present to stop you.
Stay in the race. Be an athlete for the King. Do not let anyone or anything stop you from living for God. It you have accepted God into your life, keep going in the race. If you have not accepted him yet, examine yourself. This is important because cannot say you are an athlete for the King and you cannot get in the race if you never took the first step. God has done so much for you, he has given you life, he has open doors for you, and he has blessed you in so many ways. With God you can be whatever you desire to be, but put him first. Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Even when it look difficult, when it looks like things are not working out, when it looks like you are losing, trust God. Stay in the race.
