In this life, we can face many difficulties. The challenges that we are faced with can look like giants in our lives. However, we can defeat the giants. We were born to overcome. Romans 8: 37 states, "Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."
1 Samuel 17 is the encounter between David and Goliath. David in the Bible was just a shepherd over the sheep, but his brothers were soldiers. The Philistine giant, Goliath, was taunting the people of Israel by asking them who would dare fight him. He said if someone could defeat him, he and his people would serve the Israelites. However, the problem was that everyone was intimidated by Goliath.
Have you ever been intimidated by your circumstances? Was the devil talking so bad in your ear that you that you thought being quiet or staying away was your only choice?
David's father told him to go take food to his brothers who were supposed to be fighting. When David heard what Goliath was saying, he was astonished. He said who is this uncircumcised man challenging God's people. When you have God on your side, you have to know that you are going to come out victoriously. David had a strong conviction. He had a holy boldness. A great confidence that God would help him take out the giant.
David said that he would fight Goliath. Saul gave him all his armor, but it was too much for David. David was not built like a solider. He was just willing to be used by God. Are you willing to be used by God? Are you available? David did not let anything about him be an excuse for what he could not do. David knew who he had with him. Don't forget who you have with you!
David took off Saul's armor and used his sling shoot and 5 smooth stones. It only took one shot for him to defeat Goliath. The first shot was right on target. When God is with you, it does not take several attempts for your victory. After one attempt, God came through. David defeated the giant.
I want to encourage you that if you trust God, God will help you through any situation and any circumstance. You just have to be bold enough to stand in the face of the giant!!! The giant maybe big and it maybe loud, but God is greater. Trust God to see you through!!!
