Encouragement Through Psalms
Encouragement Through Psalms
In life, we sometimes encounter various difficulties. Some are so unexpected that it can literally pull the rug from under your feet or knock the wind out of you. Nevertheless, in these times, you must know how to encourage yourself. The devil desires that you walk around fearful, hopeless, depressed, defeated, and discouraged.
In I Samuel the 30th chapter, David and his men come back to their village and find that the women and children have been taken Captive. This was indeed an unexpected event for David and his men. Listen to what David did in his moment of distress: I Samuel 30:6 “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”
What do you do in your moment of distress? Who do you rely on in your moments of chaos? Who do run to? I tell you the best place to God is in the arms of God.
The book of Psalms is a poetic book of the Old Testament filled with hymns of praise & prayers of thanksgiving to God as well as laments against one’s enemies & misfortunes.
The book of Psalms is place in the word of God that anyone can go with any difficulties to find refuge, peace, love, hope, and so much more.
The verse of the day in the bible app is Psalms 145:18-19 “The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfill the desires of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.”
These verses let us know that why we call out to God, he does not turn is back on us or choose not to listen, but he draws close to hear. God already knows what we are faced with, but he loves to hear his children bring their cares to him.
Then it says that he fulfilled the desires of them that fear him. Fear in this sense means reverence. God honors and takes care of his children. You can expect God to come through for you even in the most difficult times because you choose to seek him for help.
Here are some encouraging Psalms that bless me still today:
Psalm 27 ****13-14
"I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait I saw on the Lord."
Psalm 34**** 19
"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all."
"Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."
"Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings."
I come up here to encourage you to find some psalms that minister to the challenges that you are faced with in your life. Allow the word of God to minister to you, to encourage you, to inspire you, and give you hope. You can make it. On a path to New Beginnings you have to know where to go to encourage yourself in the challenging times in your life.
