God Has Not Abandoned You!
The obstacles that life brings are often more challenging than we could have imagined, longer lasting than we could have fathomed, and more heart-wrenching than we could have believed.
Everyone has come to a place in life where they have wondered why they have experience the things they have experienced. Wondered why they have not reached the dreams and goals they had hoped for. Wondered why they things have not gone the way in which they had planned. Wondered why they have been let down or disappointed. Sometimes it seems like you are all alone. Sometimes it seems that God has left you or does not love you. Sometimes you wonder when the pain will end. Then you wonder when new things will begin. One thing you must know is that God has not abandoned you!
How do you see God in darkness, how can you hear God through the noise of life, and how can you feel him with pressure on every side? Hebrews 11:1, “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things now seen.” When there seems to be devastation, distress, darkness, and disaster all around you, it is important to have faith in God. Faith is not what you see, it is not what you feel, and it is not what you hear. Faith is what you know. Faith is your assurance in the fact that God will be God. David said, “I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.” Hebrews 13:8 reads, Jesus (God in the flesh) is the same yesterday, today, and forever more.”
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
This passage is so amazing and astonishing all at the same time. Here we have Jesus’ disciples on a ship where a storm arises, and they are terrified about what is going on around them. Does this remind you of times in your life. Jesus is with you, you know him, and you even have relationship with him. However, when the storms of life come unexpectedly, we can become fearful, doubtful, and confused. The key is the fact that God never said that with him there would be no obstacles or challenges that would arise in our lives. Instead, Romans 8: 17 states, “And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ — if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.”
When Jesus got up, he spoke to the winds and the water, and they obeyed. He asked them basically where is your faith? Is God asking you that today? He has not abandoned you. He has not forgotten about you. He never has never left you. However, how many times have you left him? How many times have we doubted his power, his will, his timing, and his purpose? God is greater. It only takes a word from him to speak to your situation. Trust the process.
