Redefining Yourself

Redefining Yourself

We grow up in different environments, our life experiences are all different, and we are all taught differently. On one hand, as you mature as an individual there are many great qualities about you; however, on the other hand, there are many things that you see that need to be tweaked, changed, or completely removed from the person you are today. Often times we initially try really hard to change, but we often find it is not easy to do. Sometimes difficulties can arise and we can go back to the old ways we work to get rid of. So, what are the things that need to be changed for you? Are people holding you to your past, which makes it harder for you to make the changes you desire and start new? Do you fill stuck? Do you feel like you just need to accept your bad ways and habits as a part of you that cannot be changed? Do you feel like some of these ways keep you away from God? Do you feel like some of the ways keep God away from you?

Well I hope to encourage you. I want you to know that you can redefine yourself with the help of God. The ways and habits that you desire to change can happen. God is not repulsed by your issues, but he wants you to bring them to him and be free. We are not to be bound by anything because of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us.

2 Corinthians 5:17King James Version (KJV)

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

In Christ you are made new. Under the blood our past is behind us, and you can move forward. It is not God’s desire for you to fix yourself. He is the all-powerful God who is there to help you overcome all issues, habits, and ways that you feel stuck in. That takes transformation. Transformation is a process that takes place overtime. You have to decide to make a choice every day to change for the better. You may not get it right every day, but you have to continue to look to God.

If life has cause you to be a person that is defined as broken

Go to God for healing

If life has caused you to be a person that is defined as faithless

Go to God for Faith

If life has caused you to be a person that is defined as depressed

Go to God for Joy

If life has caused you to be a person that is defined as bitter

Go to God for healing and forgiveness

If life has caused you to be a person that is defined as angry

Go to God for love, patience, and self-control

If life has caused you to be a person that is defined as burdened

Go to God for peace and rest

If life has caused you to be a person that is defined as insecure

Go to God for Confidence

If life has cause you to be a person that is defined as one who lacks

Go to God for provision

If life has cause you to be a person that is defined as addicted to anything

God to God for freedom and deliverance

Jacob is a great example of someone who was serious about redefining himself. He wrestled with God.

Genesis 32:24-28

24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. 25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.”

But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”

27 So He said to him, “What is your name?”

He said, “Jacob.”

28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.

Jacob was serious about starting new. He was on the run from his twin brother Esau after tricking him out of his birthright and tricking his father, Issac, with the help of his mother, Rebekah, for his brother's birthright as the first born. But he wanted to change, and he understood that he needed God's help. We have to continue to pray and seek God relentlessly. God honors our perserverance.

God is calling to you. He does not want you to move away from him. He desires that you draw closer to him for whatever you need help letting go of, changing, or transforming. Your mistakes and your problems do not have to define who you are or what you will become. Seek new, believe for new, reach for new, expect new! There is absolutely nothing that you cannot overcome. Christ has made us victorious!

I Peter 5:7 “Cast all your cares upon Him, for he careth for you”
