Oh To Be A Vessel of Honor!

What does it mean to be a vessel of honor for God? Why should one be a vessel of honor for God?

Romans 12:1-2

"I beseech ye therefore brethren by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice; holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind so that ye may be able to prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

We do not choose God because of how good he is. We choose God because he loved us enough to choose us. He choose to die for us. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our lives. God has been faithful, loving, unwavering, dependable, and everything we could ever need him to be. These verses in Romans states that we should be that living sacrifice as a reasonable service to God because of what he has done for you and I. God was always God. He was always enough, but history shows that man always put other things before him. He did what no one else will. He died for our wrong, our mess, our hate, our selfishness, and our wickedness. Therefore, he is deserving of our lives.

God wants more than anything else is relationship with you. He wants to grant you the things he already knows you need. He wants to make the dreams that he has given you a reality. There is so much he desires to show us. He desires to manifest his power in our lives. When it seems like everything is going wrong, God is waiting for you to run to him. Life brings unforeseen challenges and obstacles, and no matter how bad it seems, God can turn everything around for your good.

2 Timothy 2:3-4, 20-21

3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Verses 3-4 tells us to continue to persevere in spite of any challenges or difficulties. A solider is someone who has chosen to dedicate their lives to fight for a country they believe in and a cause they believe in. As a solider of Jesus Christ we have to continue to fight (spiritually) for the will of God on this earth, the kingdom of God to enlarge over the evil of this world, and the will of God for our lives. We cannot get so caught up in the issues or matters of this life. This is how we please God, who has chosen us first.

Verses 20-21- Address the notion that there are all different types of people in this world. Everyone leads a life that they believe is the best way. In the body of believers there are also all different types of individuals, but who are the vessels of honor? Can God count on you? Is your life pointing back to God? Are you seeking direction from him on his plan for your life, your family, your job, or your marriage? We should do this more. There is so much he desires to reveal to us. There is so much that he desires to anoint us to do in this life. Are we ready? Are we prepared for the greatness that God has for us to do? Have we put off the former things and its lust (Ephesians 4:22 & Colossians 3:9)?

Desire to be a vessel of honor for the Master's use and prepared to do his work. He will show us how. He will equip us with the tools necessary. He will make provisions for his plans for our lives.
