Faith Over Fear
Faith over Fear
There are so many things in life that we learn to fear as we go through life. As a child, children fear the dark, clowns, dogs, monsters, and being left alone. As teenagers, teens fear rejection, isolation, inadequacies failure, and the future. As adults, adults fear failure, fear of being a parent, fear of not being a parent because of complications, fear of divorce, fear of love, loneliness, the future, and even success. There are just some of the things that through life we could have found ourselves experiencing at one time or another. I am sure that you can name other things that have negatively impacted your life by way of fear. When you think back to when you were a child, your care giver often tried to give you some consolation that there was nothing to worry about or sometimes even tell you to face some of your fears. It was not always easy, but some of the fears that we had as children are no longer fears. However, what fears are you still allowing to exist in your life today?
This is a tough question right because it makes us have to begin to face some of the fears. Having a relationship with God for many years now, I have come to understand that God is concerned about our spiritual life and our everyday life. I believe the reason is because how we function in our everyday life directly impacts our spiritual life and relationship with him. Therefore, I started with all those natural things that we deal with every day to bring you to the spiritual understanding.
Fear- a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
Faith- confidence or trust in a person or thing, Christian Theology: the trust in God and in His promises as made through Christ and the Scriptures by which humans are justified or saved.
Fear and Faith cannot exist at the same time. Why? When fear is active, it has complete control of your emotions, your thoughts, and your feelings. When faith is active, it has complete dominance over the emotions, thoughts, and feelings that are contrary to faith in God.
2 Timothy 1:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
If God has not given us the spirit of fear, then we understand that fear is of the devil. In Christ, we have power over the devil and everything that he brings in our lives.
Luke 10:19 King James Version (KJV)
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
God has given us authority over the devil in Christ Jesus. If you serve God, the devil cannot have power you; therefore, when the fears of life try to creep into your mind, you can pray against those thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
In a moment where fear is present, we can declare the word of the Lord in Faith. We can also pray in faith for God to work out the things in our lives that the enemy is trying to cause us to have fear and concern about. God cares about you and I. He desires what is best for us.
This process of faith over fear is going to be a daily enduring fight. Why? The devil wants to steal our faith. Remember it cannot be both at the same time. The bible tells us in Hebrews 11:6 that “without faith it is impossible to please God.” We have to choose faith over fear.
Remember who God is in face of fear. He is the creator of this world. He has all power in his hands, and the bible says if we ask anything in the name of Jesus and believe without doubting, that we will have what we asked of him (Mark 11:24, Matthew 21:22). We cannot be defeated with God on our side. Continue to develop a greater relationship with him and rely on what is word says concerning you.
There are so many promises in the word concerning our lives that we do not have to live in fear as adults concerning everyday life. We can choose to have faith and trust God completely to do the impossible (Luke 18:27 and Matthew 19:26).
Over come your fears today with Faith and continue to do it everyday!
